Cinephilia is a term used to describe people that are fanatics of the movies.

Cinephiles are people who view this form of art as a religion, an experience that teaches you how to walk, gives you a reason to cry, and provides you with your first lesson in sexual education.

Going to the movies is an experience where you loose yourself in the faces and lives of others. Susan Sontag, a writer, considers this form of art different from dance, threatre and other forms of art because it basically includes all forms of art. Dance is just dance, theatre is simply theatre but the cinema is all of the above, including all corresponding artistic values: aesthetics, pathos, and ethos.

Theatres have always been a part of the movie experience. Theatres project larger than life imagery, have surround sound, and gather a group of diverse people, all strangers, into a room to experience the fabulous art of film. It all becomes a hypnotic experience for all cinephiles, and their friends, spouses, children, etc.

Entertainment has evolved from cinema to rentals, television, videos, DVDs, the internet, and of course the iPod video.

In the 60’s and 70’s, there was the Hollywood fanatics who cherrished everything it represented, and although the Hollywood movement of today has taken a wrong turn somewhere along the way, modern day cinephiles seek a broader variety of movie producers to choose from. Essentially all cinephiles want is to experience the bigger than life moment at the theatre.

When I get a movie craving, The Parkway Theatre is the place for me. Sipping a draft beer, having a pizza delivered to my table while I sit comfortably in a couch with my sweetheart are some of the characteristics that make this theatre unique, a cinephile’s dream.
