This website exists as a venue where people can share stories relating to their local community. We hope the exchange of stories through this website will create a cyber-community that intersects with the real local community.
People from the physical community can contribute their stories to the online community. Then, with the use of handheld devices, these stories can be enjoyed in the physical community.
The Organic City project team is currently developing multimedia stories that can be experienced with mobile devices while touring around downtown Oakland. In addition, anyone can
post their own audio and video stories to this site's storymap using the relevant story
formatting buttons. This community-created media will also be made available for handheld devices.
The mobile media will be available in the following formats to take advantage of cutting-edge technologies while also meeting the needs of a variety of potential users:
- You can currently download audio and video stories to your iPod or other mobile media player in the Story Tours section.
- In June 2006, a mobile version of The Organic City's website will be made available for Internet-enabled Pocket PC so mobile participants can experience stories and storytelling.
- Anticipating the near-term progress and availability of cellular technology, the project's mobile website will ultimately be accessible on most cell phones.
